Two Years Together

Have you ever had a date so perfect and romantic that just thinking about it makes your heart beat and gives you butterflies in your belly? I contemplated not sharing this story with you all because it’s personal, but I decided to anyway for a few reasons. For one, I thought you’d enjoy reading it. I’m gona keep some of the details to myself though. Also, my two main reasons for writing this blog are so I can go back and read my memories and thoughts, see how I’ve changed, reference dates and place names, etc., and to keep my friends and family back home updated on what’s going on with me. Since you can’t all meet my boyfriend, I want to do my best to show you him through my words. So let me tell you about our two year anniversary date.

Our anniversary is actually May 18th, but for a few reasons, we had to put the date off a couple weeks. That actually worked out nicely because I had a terrible cold on our anniversary anyway! On May 28th, a Saturday, I had Shinya meet me at Kyobashi station after he got off of work. I think it was about 6:30. The first stop on our agenda was a nearby game center. Once a year we take purikura together. Our first time was when we first started dating. The second time was on our first anniversary. So this was the third time. We’ve made it into a little tradition!

Oh, I forgot to mention, I went all out getting ready for our date. As a girl, getting ready is all part of the fun! I picked nice outfit, chose my jewelry and perfume carefully, shaved, did my nails and eyebrows, took time on my hair and makeup (I even wore half-sized, fake lashes), and did a hair treatment the day before. I felt purdy.

After purikura, we went to do karaoke together. It was only our second time to go together! So, we felt the itch to go again. Since it’s not something we normally do, it felt special. I’m a little bit embarrassed to admit this, but I spent a good few weeks before the date preparing and picking the songs I wanted to sing. Shinya is really good at karaoke, so I wanted to make sure I picked songs I could sing. Plus, I wanted to do my best to sing some songs completely in Japanese for him. I never sing Japanese songs. It took me a while to learn the lyrics perfectly. I was embarrassed about my crappy voice, but we had a lot of fun. Shinya was super impressed by my singing of “Chop Suey” by System of a Down LOL!

After going to karaoke, we headed to the restaurant we had reserved. We actually chose the place together a few weeks in advance and made an 8:30 reservation. The place is called Salavatore Cuomo & Bar. It’s an Italian restaurant and wine bar that does brick oven pizzas. I had wanted to try the place for a while, and the atmosphere was very nice.

When we arrived, we were escorted to the second floor to a two person table near the window. After getting our drinks and ordering our appetizers, Shinya said he had to use the restroom. When he came back, he had a bag which confused me. From the bag, he pulled out a big bouquet of pink flowers; daisies, roses, and carnations. I was so surprised! Apparently, he had actually gotten off work earlier than he told me. He went to buy my flowers and give them to the restaurant for safe keeping. How romantic!

The food was delicious. We started off with assorted olives, smoked salmon slices, and bagna càuda. He drank beer, and I drank wine. We had an agreement not to drink too much though. We didn’t want the date to revolve around drinking like it usually does. Plus we had a long night planned and didn’t want to get tired. After finishing our appetizers, we ordered a pizza to share. We were gona order pasta too but felt like it’d be too much. It was nice not to eat until we were uncomfortably full like we did on his bday…omg. The pizza was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had! I was so impressed! It was Italian, brick oven style with fresh basil, mozzarella, anchovies, garlic, and capers on it. I’m drooling just thinking about it!! Since we only had two drinks each, dinner was quite reasonable! It was a little over ¥6000 for the two of us. I’m glad it wasn’t too expensive because the main event of the night would cost a bit of money…

Since we’ve been too poor to travel or do anything big together recently, we decided we could afford to splurge just a little for this occasion, and we decided to stay in a hotel! This way, we could enjoy being in a nice, spacious place together, just the two of us, and we wouldn’t have to worry about time or catching the last train. It was nice to stay somewhere romantic and different from my home. Since Shinya started his new job, he only has Wednesdays off which means we don’t really get to sleep together anymore. It was a really nice treat.

We checked into the hotel, dropped off our bags, and rested a little bit before heading out to our bar that we only go to for special occasions. There was a massage chair in the hotel room which was amusing, along with a light up, jet bath and Play Station 2.

We went to Wisteria. I know I’ve mentioned this place before. It’s a super classy sherry bar with a highly skilled bar master. We ordered our usual at this place, Moscow mules. It’s not something we usually drink, but they are out of this world here. We also go some chocolate. I thought this would be the perfect time to take out the photo album I prepared. It was an album of all our 2nd year memories. We spent time looking at all the pages and remembering all the fun times together. I did this for our last anniversary, too. After two drinks, we decided to head back to the hotel. Since we’d only had 4 drinks over the course of like 4 hours, we decided a little champagne wouldn’t hurt to bring back to the hotel. We picked some up with some smoked cheese and salami. The salami for him and the cheese for me. We didn’t drink it right away, though.

After getting cleaned up and changed into our pajamas, we opened the bottle and had a blast just sitting on the couch drinking, snacking, and talking. I felt so happy! I think we ended up going to bed around 4am. We had to check out by 10, I believe. It wasn’t the longest sleep, but it was peaceful. Of course, we checked out last minute, and on our way home, we stopped by a café for a light breakfast and coffee. Really, this date was just perfect. I’m so happy to have met such a sweet and wonderful guy who I can spend time pleasantly with, who likes me as I am with my chubby body and childish sense of humor. I can’t wait to see what our third year has in store!
